Hi lovelies, I can’t believe that it’s officially holiday season! Between baking holiday treats, prepping for parties and spending time with family and loved ones it truly is the most wonderful time of the year! It’s also my favourite time of the year for nail art! Coordinating your *holiday nails* to match the traditional red-white-green shades of the season, however, may seem a tad over the top. I used to love painting all of that stuff on my nails growing up, but now? Not so much. But just because I’m not painting Santa Claus on my nails this year doesn’t mean that they won’t be festive!

I opted to stick with chic holiday themed nails this year using five gorgeous shades from Sally Hansen’s Miracle Gel Holiday collection: Bordeaux Glow, Boho a-Go-Go, Midnight Mod, V-Amplified and Game of Chromes. Miracle Gel is an easy two-step zero light gel system, more chip-resistant than regular polish. It can last up to 14 days so you won’t have to worry about your mani lasting through the holidays (and it removes easily with regular polish remover)!

Here are four of my favourite, festive and fun nail art looks to get you in the holiday mood:

TWISTED PEPPERMINT HOLIDAY NAILS

look-1-bordeaux-glow-get-mod

Candy canes are a staple in my house during the holidays, so I decided to re-create them on my nails. I love this look because it’s festive yet so wearable (not to mention super cute)!

  1. Apply two coats of Sally Hansen Miracle Gel shade Get Mod
  2. With a striping brush create your “twists” using Sally Hansen Miracle Gel shade Bordeaux Glow
  3. Repeat on each nail, you can use a striping brush dipped in acetone to clean up if any of your “twists” aren’t perfect
  4. Finish with a generous coat of Sally Hansen Miracle Gel topcoat for extra shine

FESTIVE COLOUR BLOCK NAILS

look-2-colorblock-midnight-mod-goc-vamplified

One of the trendiest nail looks this season is this retro-chic 60’s inspired colour block, pair that with this season’s most coveted shades and your nails are sure to make a lasting impression!

  1. Apply two coats of Sally Hansen Miracle Gel shade V-Amplified and let dry
  2. Using a striping brush and Sally Hansen Miracle Gel shade Game of Chromes, create a diagonal line and fill it in, repeat on all nails
  3. Again using your striping brush take Sally Hansen Miracle Gel shade Midnight Mod and create another diagonal stripe this time going the opposite way and fill it in, repeat on all nails
  4. Seal your look with Sally Hansen Miracle Gel topcoat for an ultra-shiny, durable finish

EASY NEGATIVE SPACE NAILS

look-3-boho-a-go-go

Sometimes less is more during the holidays, I’ve been obsessing over purple nails this season and have been wearing this shade non-stop – adding a negative space aspect to this look really brings it all together in a modern yet edgy way!

  1. Apply two coats of Sally Hansen Miracle Gel shade Boho a-Go-Go on all nails except your ring and pointer finger nails
  2. Take a striping brush to create two parallel lines on your pointer and ring finger nails and fill them in leaving a bare space in the centre of your nails with Sally Hansen Miracle Gel shade Boho a-Go-Go.
  3. Seal in your look for long-lasting shine with Sally Hansen Miracle Gel topcoat

CHIC NEW YEARS EVE NAILS

look-4-nye-goc-vamplified

The perfect look to pair with your LBD on New Years Eve! These nails bring an elevated sense of style and luxury to any outfit.

  1. Using Sally Hansen Miracle Gel shade Game of Chromes and a striping brush create a horizontal line near your cuticle and fill in, repeat on all nails
  2. Follow with Sally Hansen Miracle Gel shade V-Amplified to create another horizontal line, this time at the top of your nail, leaving a bare section in the centre of your nail and fill in, repeat on all nails
  3. Complete your look with Sally Hansen Miracle Gel topcoat, making sure to cap the edges

For those of you who prefer to keep things simple with a solid mani through the holiday season, the Sally Hansen Miracle Gel Holiday Collection has some gorgeous shade choices!

bordeaux-glow

‘Bordeaux Glow’ is THE perfect rich metallic red to get you in the holiday spirit! Unlike most metallic shades, this one applies evenly and doesn’t leave any streaks.

v-amplified

‘V-Amplified’ is a stunning deep red that becomes opaque with two thin coats. I love how shiny it becomes once paired with Sally Hansen’s Miracle Gel topcoat.

boho-a-go-go

‘Boho a-Go-Go’ is a gorgeous, glossy aubergine – I’ve been obsessed with purple polish lately and this shade has been my go-to!

midnight-mod

‘Midnight Mod’ is a deep, dark blue hue and has been one of my favourite’s through fall and winter. It applies evenly with one coat making it an easy choice for a quick, polished look!

game-of-chromes

‘Game of Chromes’ isn’t your average gold polish as it has micro sparkles embedded throughout. I love wearing this shade alone, with nail art or even as an accent nail.

These fun, festive shades and minimally chic nail designs are sure to make you stand out this holiday season! Don’t forget to always start with clean, bare nails when using Sally Hansen’s Miracle Gel polish. I like to use a quick swipe of acetone before starting, as this will help the polish adhere to your nail and last longer. If you feel your nails need a little more TLC you can start with a thin coat of Sally Hansen’s Nail Rehab as a base.

In Canada, Sally Hansen Miracle Gel nail polishes retail at $11.95 and can be found at mass retailers and drugstores (with 70 shades to choose from)! Check out Sally Hansen Canada and @sallyhansenca for more information.

Hi my loves, happy almost Halloween! Every year, the weeks leading up to Halloween are taken over by deciding what to costume to wear. Between what to dress up as, what you’ll be doing and how you’ll beautify yourself it can become somewhat overwhelming! Of course nail art always adds that extra little something to any costume yet year after year we constantly see the same old designs, so I decided it would be cool to try something different this year!

I’ve teamed up once again with Sally Hansen to create three easy, fun Halloween nail looks that anyone can master in a few simple steps! Because the last thing you want to be thinking about on Halloween is if your nails will chip, I used polishes from the Miracle Gel collection – no UV light required! Sally Hansen’s Miracle Gel line has over 70 shades in Canada so there’s no shortage of colours when it comes to nail art, and in two easy steps you’re left with a chip-resistant mani that can last up to 14 days. Plus, the fact that it removes easily with regular nail polish remover is super convenient.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s totally fine if you want to paint your nails black, or stick with the basics and call it a day but what better way to celebrate one of the funnest holidays then to celebrate in style by taking Snapchat’s most popular filters straight to your fingertips?

If you follow me on Snapchat (laurenslist) then you already know that I’m totally filter-obsessed! Today, I’m sharing my top three favourite Snapchat filters and how to easily re-create them on your nails:

SNAPCHAT-INSPIRED RAINBOW DRIP NAILS:

  1. Using Miracle Gel shade World Wide Red, create a vertical squiggle on the left side of your nail
  2. Next, take Complete Salon Manicure shade Mum’s The Word and repeat step 2 next to your first squiggle
  3. Repeat using Miracle Gel shades S-teal The Show, Byte Blue and Purplexed
  4. Using Blacky O outline your dripping effect using a nail art brush, and fill it in
  5. Using Get Mod create tiny T shaped “sparkles”
  6. Seal your look with Miracle Gel Top Coat for extra shine

SNAPCHAT-INSPIRED HALF-MOON FLOWER CROWN NAILS:

Hi my loves! I know it’s been a while since my last blog post but life has been so crazy lately, between looking with my fiancé to buy our first house, travelling and working on a bunch of new and exciting partnerships I’ve barely had time to post. But I’m glad to say that I’m back and I figured this would be the perfect time to write another post on nail stamping as Halloween is quickly approaching! You may remember I first tried my hand at nail stamping last year around the holidays and was pleasantly surprised how easy it was – not only is it a major time-saver when you’re in a rush but it also guarantees flawless nail art.

I know that nail stamping can still be somewhat intimidating, especially if you are a beginner so I wanted to share a few tips & tricks that I’ve picked up over time from nail stamping. I know that there are tons of tutorials online on how-to combine different design plates on one nail or how to use different colours within one design so I thought I’d share something a little different… Today I’m going to show you how to create your very own nail stamping decal! This advanced technique is one of my absolute favourites and you don’t have to be a pro to master it. Let’s get right to it starting with my tips & tricks:

TIPS & TRICKS: NAIL STAMPING 101

  • If you find the design too big for your nail, simply pop out your stamper and stretch it before rolling it over your design. This way, when it stretches back into place your design will have shrunk and fit more accordingly to your nail. 🙂
  • USE A CLEAR STAMPER!! This will help SO much in seeing where your design is being placed on your nail (Trade Secrets carries this amazing MoYou Kaleidoscopic one that I’m uber obsessed with).
  • Move quickly – if you wait to long before rolling your stamper over your design the polish will dry out and won’t adhere.
  • Use an opaque polish, thicker polish; these are the easiest for nail stamping. If your polish is too sheer the stamper will not pick up any colour. I love the CND Vinylux range for nail stamping.
  • Always clean your design plate and stamper between use. There’s nothing worse than having bits of leftover polish, dust or cotton being transferred onto your nail and ruining your mani.
  • Wait before applying topcoat – if you do this too quickly or use a too-thin topcoat it will smudge your design.

HOW-TO: CREATE A CUSTOM NAIL STAMPING DECAL, MAJOR NAIL HACK!!

image1

  1. Apply base colour to all of your nails (I used CND Vinylux Denim Patch from the Craft Culture Fall 2016 Collection)
  2. Apply polish to desired design (I used CND Vinylux in Leather Satchel from the Craft Culture Fall 2016 Collection as polish and MoYou London Steampunk Collection 02 Plate for the design) and roll your stamper across the plate, picking up the design, I find that clear stampers work best for this as you can see what your decal will look like before it’s on your nail
  3. Apply a non-fast drying topcoat over the entire design once it is ON the stamper – I use essie ‘good to go’ topcoat for this
  4. Using a nail art brush choose a different shade (I used CND Vinylux Brass Button from the Craft Culture Fall 2016 Collection) and colour in whichever areas that you want to have a different colour
  5. Apply a tiny bit of topcoat to your nails (dry-brush technique works best) to act as an adhesive and then transfer your brand new stamping decal onto your nails, trimming any excess with nail scissors

So there you have it lovelies, easy-peasy! You can easily layer different design plates as well by quite literally layering them on top of each other on your nail, this is also an easy way to achieve that “advanced” look. Also, don’t be shy to leave any nail stamping tricks of your own in the comments below, I’d love to hear them. 🙂

MoYou London products are currently available at your local Trade Secrets as well as online – MoYou stamping plates retail at $13.95 CAD while starter kits retail at $29.95 CAD. For more information check out @tradesecretsca and Trade Secrets.
