essie ‘stylenomics’ topped with ‘matte about you’ top coat

If you’ve been following me on Instagram you’ve probably noticed that I am going through a matte phase lately! I mean, who doesn’t love mattified nails?! The only downside is that they tend to chip very easily and lose their matte texture. A lot of you have been asking how I make my matte nails last so I decided to make a post about it!

Here are my tips and tricks for long-lasting matte nails:

  1. Apply a ridge-filling base coat
  2. Apply two coats of colour
  3. Seal with a thick top coat
  4. Once dry, apply ‘matte about you’ top coat
  5. Enjoy long-lasting, flawless matte nails!

This also applies when using matte top coats over regular polish- I find that sealing in the polish with a good quality thick top coat and then applying your matte top coat really keeps them long-lasting! It also helps create a smooth and seamless base for your matte top coat to glide over. Matte top coats alone can be really tricky and they tend to chip fast! Also, make sure you cover the whole nail because if you miss even the smallest spot it will shine bright!

Will you be trying matte nails for your next manicure?

I’m not a huge fan of shellac or gel as I like to change my colour very often, but sometimes a girl just needs long-lasting polish! That’s where CND VINYLUX comes in handy- it’s a two step “system” which uses just colour and a top coat and the results are actually pretty amazing.

I had originally tested out this polish before going away because who has time to do their nails on vacation? But I really loved the results! If you are looking for a long-lasting polish without the hassle of a UV lamp or salon appointment then I highly recommend Vinylux!

Shown below is 2 thin coats of Winter Glow, from their 2015 Holiday Collection, topped with the Weekly Top Coat.

I loooove this colour, it applied evenly and opaquely with two thin coats! No joke, these nails lasted me two weeks without chipping. TWO WEEKS. It also removes with regular acetone nail polish remover. 🙂

I’m sure many of you were able to find photos of this collection (or even order it online) for a while now but here is your first official look at essie’s Winter 2015 collection!

Now, I’m definitely not ready for Winter but this collection is making it a little easier! It was designed, once again, with Rebecca Minkoff and it is sure to please! Let’s have a look…

“Temperatures are dropping. Snow is falling. Adventure awaits. Now’s the perfect time to make a dash for the mountains where beautiful vistas, clear skies and a Winter wonderland will give you a taste for life at the top. Whether you love to ski, snowboard or simply prefer to kick back and relax, a mountain holiday is the ideal moment to showcase your elevated style. Think exhilarating fresh air, pristine trails, roaring fires, fur blankets and lots of ski-lift kisses high in the sky. Whether you’re feeling luxe or lowkey, your après-ski ensemble will be completed to perfection with this collection of six wintery wonderland shades. Seductive reds and pretty pastels get metallic allure from iconic platinum to a fiery jet black. It’s a tightly edited collection sure to melt hearts – and Winter’s chill.”

‘virgin snow’ Pure. Untouched. Pristine. This icy frozen lavender is just waiting to be discovered.

‘après-chic’ Sport this iconic platinum and go from ski bunny to Winter wonderland queen.

‘peak show’ Enjoy the view from the top. In this scenic powder pink, it’s the place to be – in all it’s pretty glory.

‘altitude attitude’ Rise to the occasion in elevated sublime scarlet and scale the heights of fashion without batting a lash.

‘shall we chalet?’ Well darling, since you ask… why not? It would be impossible to resist this seductive ruby

‘haute tub’ Turn up the fashion heat and take the plunge in indulgent jet black with amethyst fire.

“Off on a ski and spa holiday? Be sure to pack your altitude attitude so you can be the height of après-chic. There’s nothing like a peak show at the summit –with all that virgin snow a handsome instructor is bound to ask, shall we chalet? Well, why not? There’s nothing like a bubbling haute tub under the stars.”

Here’s how they compare to other similar essie shades:

My top picks? ‘virgin snow’ and ‘haute tub’! I will definitely be posting more in depth about this collection throughout Winter, but for now I’m still enjoying Fall. 🙂

The essie Winter 2015 collection will be available early November in Canada!

Alright, I know it’s still early August but I am DYING over this gorgeous essie Fall collection! (Pictured left to right: ‘color binge’, ‘in the lobby’, ‘bell bottom blues’, ‘leggy legend’, ‘frock n roll’, and ‘with the band’). If you didn’t already know I’m utterly obsessed with everything Fall related. What’s not to love about crisp mornings, hot drinks to keep you warm, sweater weather, Halloween and Thanksgiving?! Not to mention new trends for clothing and beauty!

“Lights? Check. Sound? Check. Inspiring colour? You’re on! Taking centre stage this season is iconic rock ‘n’ roll royalty: the queen of the entourage, the unstoppable, impossibly stylish muse. Darling of the 1970’s music scene, everyone on the a-list wants her or wants to be her. She turns up at every gig, fashionably late and perfectly turned-out. How does she do it?

Or, how doesn’t she do it? In a fitted suede trench and custom bell-bottom blues, she’s the perfectly stylish match for rock star paramours like Mick Jagger and Eric Clapton and fashionable friend to sirens like Joni Mitchell and Janis Joplin. Backstage. On tour. The endless parties. The hotel hotspots. The tabloid gossip. Rule number one: If you want to be a muse: dress for success. It’s easy to turn style into a career-catapulting platform, if you are a leggy legend. Mix major attitude and rebellious spirit with a peasant blouse and knee-high boots, finish with a fiercely alluring manicure and you’re good to go.

The six new compelling shades of the Essie Fall collection capture the powerful allure of the ingenues of the rock era with intensely saturated hues. Deep reds solder with brazen beauty. Midnight blue wields hypnotic power. Shimmering bronze like molten lamé, emerges from the night and onto the dance floor.”

This collection was designed once again with Rebecca Minkoff (yay!), and it’s super on trend with the 70’s rock ‘n roll vibe for Fall! Let’s have a look…

L to R: ‘leggy legend’, ‘color binge’, ‘with the band’, ‘in the lobby’, ‘bell bottom blues’, ‘frock n roll’ 2 thin coats of polish topped with essie gel•setter top coat.

Here’s how they look once applied. I’m loving ‘leggy legend’, ‘bell bottom blues’ and ‘frock n roll’ !! The added shimmer just gives an extra almost holographic touch, which is pretty rare for essie. All of these colours are on point for Fall, and I can see myself wearing these throughout Fall AND Winter. Which shades will you be picking up?

The essie Fall 2015 collection will be available in Canada starting August 25.
